This Cookie Policy explains how Temple Seven Press, Inc. ("Temple Seven," "we," "us," or "our") uses cookies and similar tracking technologies on www.templeseven.com (the "Services"), and how you can control them. This Policy forms part of, and should be read together with, our Privacy Policy. This Policy is an interim revision dated September 25, 2026 and remains subject to review by counsel.

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They allow a site to recognize your device, remember your preferences, and collect information about how the site is used. We also use browser storage — "local storage," which persists until cleared, and "session storage," which is cleared when the tab closes — and the browser's IndexedDB database (used by the Firebase software that keeps you signed in and caches data for the Services) for the same purposes. We refer to all of these collectively as "cookies" in this Policy. Values kept in browser storage stay on your device; they are read by our own code and are not shared with advertisers.

2. Our Cookie Consent Model

We use a simple, binary consent model. When you first visit the Services, a banner asks you to choose "Essential Only" or "Accept All." Your choice is stored for three hundred and sixty-five (365) days in a first-party cookie named t7_consent (so our server can read it when it renders a page) and in browser local storage (so the page can check it without a network request), and you can change it at any time using "Manage Cookies" in the site footer, which clears both copies and shows the banner again. Google Analytics is off by default and is switched on only after you choose "Accept All"; choosing "Essential Only" keeps it off. Strictly necessary cookies remain active either way because the Services cannot function without them.

3. Strictly Necessary Cookies and Storage (Always Active)

  • Authentication — set by Firebase Authentication (in cookies and IndexedDB) to keep you signed in to your Account.
  • Trusted device (t7.trustedDevice) — if you have enabled two-factor authentication and choose "Remember this device for 14 days" at sign-in, we store in local storage your email address, a random device secret, and an expiry time, and keep a matching record on our servers. On your next sign-in from that browser, the secret (together with your password) lets you skip the one-time-code prompt. The token expires fourteen (14) days after it is issued, is discarded automatically once expired or if it no longer matches our record, and can be removed at any time by clearing your browser's site data for www.templeseven.com.
  • Cart — remembers items in your cart between pages and visits.
  • Consent state (t7_consent) — records your cookie banner choice so we don't ask again for 365 days.
  • Preferences and onboarding flags — local-storage values that remember reader and workspace display settings (for example, citation style, zoom, whether the presence indicator is hidden, and whether panels are docked) and whether you have already seen an introductory guide. These contain settings only, not personal information.
  • Bot protection (Firebase App Check / reCAPTCHA) — Google's reCAPTCHA v3 runs on the Services to attest that requests come from a real browser; it may set its own cookies and collects device signals under Google's privacy policy.
  • Checkout — session cookies set by Stripe on checkout pages for payment processing and fraud prevention.

Because these cookies are essential to the Services' operation, they are not subject to the opt-out described above, consistent with applicable e-privacy law.

4. Analytics Cookies (Opt-In Only)

If you choose "Accept All," we activate Google Analytics (delivered via Firebase Analytics) to help us understand how visitors use the Services — including which titles are read or purchased most and how visitors navigate the site — so we can improve performance and content. This activates only after your affirmative consent and is disabled by default. We do not use Google Analytics for advertising purposes, and no advertising identifiers are shared as part of this integration.

5. No Advertising or Marketing Cookies

We do not use advertising, retargeting, or marketing cookies of any kind, and we do not run advertising or marketing pixels on the Services. If this changes in the future, we will update this Policy and add the relevant opt-in/opt-out controls before doing so.

6. Third-Party Cookies

The third-party cookies used on the Services are those set by Stripe on checkout pages (for payment processing and fraud prevention), by Google for reCAPTCHA / App Check bot protection, and, where you have opted in, Google Analytics. In addition, if you choose to play a video embedded on a Research workspace, the YouTube or Vimeo player may set its own cookies once it loads; the player is not loaded until you press play, and we load Vimeo with its "do not track" setting, as described in Section 11a of our Privacy Policy. Each of these third parties processes cookie data in accordance with its own privacy and cookie practices, which we encourage you to review.

7. Your Choices

  • Cookie banner: Choose "Essential Only" or "Accept All" when you first visit, and change your choice at any time via "Manage Cookies" in the site footer.
  • Browser controls: Most browsers let you block or delete cookies and site data (including local storage and IndexedDB) through their settings. Doing so may affect the functionality of the Services, including your ability to stay logged in, keep a trusted device, or complete checkout.
  • Global Privacy Control (GPC): As a precaution, we detect and honor the GPC signal, where supported by your browser, even though our current practices do not involve the sale or sharing of personal information.

8. Changes to This Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the cookies we use or for legal or regulatory reasons. The "Last Updated" date above indicates when this Policy was last revised.
