Every search runs in two places at once:

• Catalog details — book titles and authors, plus the titles of standalone files, newspapers, and bundles. Descriptions, tags, and genres are not searched; use the filters beside the results to narrow by genre, format, tag, or century.
• The full text inside books — the scanned page text of every book we've run through text recognition. A match here shows a highlighted preview of the passage on the result card.

Multiple words find books containing all of them, anywhere in the book — not necessarily together. To require an exact phrase, wrap it in quotes: "the origin of the name".

Inside book text, words shorter than three letters and very common words (the, and, of) are skipped — they appear in nearly every book, so they can't narrow anything down. Titles and authors have no such restriction.
