Connecting evidence: the six yarn types
Four relationships that read both ways, and two that point.
Turn on Connect, click two cards, and pick a type:
STRONG — a firm connection you can defend. POSSIBLE — a lead worth checking, drawn dashed so it reads as provisional. CONTRADICTION — the two sources genuinely conflict. These are the points an argument has to resolve rather than route around. LED TO — one thing chronologically caused the other.
SUPPORTS and REFUTES are different: they point in a direction. Draw them FROM the evidence TO the claim. The panel spells out how the connection will read before you commit it, and offers to swap the ends if you picked in the other order.
You can also create your own yarn types with their own colours. The legend in the bottom-right lists everything on the board, and folds away when it's in your way.
Whatever you write in the reasoning box prints on the report next to that connection. It is worth writing properly.
